Toy Pomeranian Dog - Popular Ball Of Fluff

Toy Pomeranians are very pretty dogs ranging in size from 6 to 11 inches. They're known for their intelligence and outgoing personality which at one time earned them jobs as circus performers.

If you're interested in this breed, you've no doubt heard about the celebrity Pomeranian, Boo, who has been dubbed the "World's Cutest Dog" - not without good reason I might add! He's unbelievably cute.

Poms have a double coat which adds up to a lot of hair and shed continuously. If left in its natural state, the hair is very fluffy and long. Frequent brushing is a must to avoid the inevitable matting which seems to occur almost spontaneously with this type of coat!

Most groomers recommend that the coat never be clipped, but it's not uncommon for owners to opt to clip it anyway to cut down on the maintenance. Boo, has no doubt inspired many Pom owners to copy his attractive clipped look.

If you plan to clip your Pom at home, you will need a reliable set of clippers and a
slicker brush
. The clippers shown below do a good job at a very reasonable price:

Here's a picture of Boo with his short cut and his brother with a traditional cut.

It's Whelping Time Of Year - For Dogs That Is!

Today I've been thinking about the fact that more puppies tend to be born around this time of year - i.e. the Christmas puppy! That means a lot of pregnant dog moms are scouting around for a safe and warm place to give birth. And they may want a little privacy too! :)

The perfect answer to this is a whelping box. The whelps (puppies) are going to be a lot safer if one of these boxes is available to keep them confined until they are old enough to venture out, as well as for the obvious purpose of nursing.

Whelping boxes can be handmade or purchased. Most professional breeders usually have very solid boxes like the one above, that they can use over and over, but these are naturally more expensive.

Families who are thinking of breeding their dog just once would probably like to find a less costly box. With that in mind, here are some alternate choices:

Preparation is the key to the successful delivery of puppies. If you're going to be involved with this happy event, you'll find helpful information here.
