Pressure Mounted Pet Gates

Pressure mounted pet gates offer a convenient solution when it's necessary to set boundaries for pets around the house. And you're hearing this from the voice of experience, one who has recently acquired a new dog that is quite a handful!

Actually he's very smart and has lots of potential. But, in the meantime, he's an over-the-top explorer kind of dog that has to investigate anything and everything. And that's okay, EXCEPT, that he's also a chronic chewer!!

Think of how many things around the house that are at a dog's level of interest - both dangerous, as well as items of value. Add to that, a dog tall enough to surf kitchen counters, or anywhere food might be within reach, and Houston we have a problem!

For example, here's something that happened not too long ago. We were getting ready to enjoy a BBQ dinner out on the patio. With this in mind I decided to make sure the "food-driven" pooch was fed earlier.

So, here I was in the kitchen prepping salad fixings and a bit distracted for a few seconds. As it turned out, this was just long enough for one quick dog to grab a steak off the counter! Get the picture? (Note to self: kitchen gate needed!)

Maybe you've acquired a dog with similar habits? Or, maybe your concern might be more in the direction of other house training issues such as potty training. Fortunately, our furry friend got an "A" in that department - so far!

Needless to say, whatever your pet challenge, unless you've got eyes in the back of your head, pet gates can help you keep tabs on your pets while you're preoccupied with other activities. As a side note, most of these gates serve a dual purpose if you happen to have young children to keep an eye on - especially around pets.

I did a bit of research because I have a house that is somewhat open plan along with stairs, and non-standard doorways. Here are some variations of the pressure mounted pet gates that met my criteria:

Pet Gates For Extra Wide Spaces

Extra Wide Expandable Gate

I must admit I do tend to prefer houses with an open floor plan and have lived with pets in more than one home of this style. Thank goodness some manufacturers thought of making extra wide or expandable pet gates to address this need. It is so much easier to train pets when you can keep a close watch on them!

The pressure mounted gate shown here is very easy to put up and take down, plus it has the nice feature of being expandable up to to fifty-eight inches. So if you need to keep an eye on your pet as you move around your home during the day, you can easily adapt it to fit other doorways or openings.

I should also mention that it has a walk through section so you're not blocking your own access to adjacent areas.

Free standing Pet Gate

These days the kitchen more often than not is the most popular area of a home and frequently it adjoins a family room, resulting in a much larger space. Naturally pets like to be in the thick of things, especially when food is being prepared.

The free standing gate with six folding panels has lots of versatility and can be adapted to suit a variety of settings. One is as a room divider with the lockable gate for adults to pass through. Another configuration is to set it up as a square or rectangular-shaped pet play pen.

If straight across a room is not what you need, the panels in this system can be separated into units of two, three or four making it very easy to handle unusual layouts.

Another nice feature is that the walk-through panel can be placed wherever is most convenient. Plus the attractive wood finish gives it a more custom look that fits in well with most decors.

Pet Gate For Stairs

Stairway Pet Gate

When it comes to safeguarding upper areas of your home, gates for stairways not only keep your pet from wandering about, but also keep small children safer. Since all stairways and landing areas are not the same, a nice feature of this gate is that it can be mounted at an angle if desired - up to 30 degrees of variance.

The all metal foundation has a nice powder-coated finish and if needed, an extension is available.

There is also a stairway Cardinal Dog Supplies Stairway Special Outdoor Pet Gate</a>"outdoor" version of this pet gate that looks very similar. The stainless hardware seems to be the main difference. It comes in brown, black or white.

Check out these pet gates if you want an easy way to keep tabs on you dog, or especially if you're expecting a new puppy. They will help save you from tearing you hair out during the months (or years - yikes!) it takes to get your pet trained. Let me know how it goes :)
